Rangers ´Round the World

A photograph of the Ranger pins in production with raw materials and mold
In addition to the cartoons and illustrations, I took up a bit of sculpting as well. At the time, no officially licensed Ranger Pins had been approved and they were in high demand. After a year of searching the convention scene for a pin, I got fed up with waiting, and decided I could make my own. I started with some Sculpy clay, and molded a master which I used to create a rubber casting mold. The mold was filled with a polymer latex resin which I could customize the color of, and which would harden into a transparent hard plastic casting. Gold and Silver leaf were painted around the edges to give it an authentic appearance. I now had a Ranger Pin! I went online to share my news with the Comlink chatters at TheStation.com, and a lot of requests came my way for me to make more. I happily complied, and I wound up working on Ranger Pins for a solid year, and in a variety of colors:

Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Black, and Amber.

Never once did I accept payment for the pins I made and sent out. 500 pins all around the world. If you have one, I am happy to have made one for you, and you are in good company. I have given pins to all of the main cast members of Babylon 5 who at one time or another portrayed a member of the Rangers. After making 500 of them, I decided to bring the project to an end, and I destroyed the original master for my pins, as well as the casting molds. An official pin was released a month later, and can be acquired through TheStation.com.Pay a visit to their Emporium.

It should also be noted that I am a proud owner of the official product. I highly recommend them
